Precision Medicine’s Expansion Beyond Oncology

For years, oncology has led the precision medicine revolution. Today, the same biomarker-driven principles are rapidly gaining momentum across neurology, rare disease, I&I disorders and chronic conditions. From multimodal biosignatures and AI-enabled diagnostics, to novel clinical endpoints and next-generation biomarker panels, precision medicine is expanding far beyond its traditional roots.

Recognizing this shift, the 16th World Clinical Biomarkers & Companion Diagnostics Summit will place a stronger emphasis on non-oncology biomarker and IVD innovation in the 2026 agenda.

Highlights Include:
Sickle Cell Disease:

Beam Therapeutics will explore clinical biomarker strategies to support gene editing therapies for sickle cell disease.

MS & Neurodegenerative Diseases:

Novartis are set to share the journey of neurofilament light chain (NfL) as a clinically actionable biomarker in multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative disorders.

Rare Neurodegenerative Diseases:

Sanford Research will showcase AI-enabled multimodal biosignatures for monitoring rare neurodegenerative diseases.

Rare Disease:

Alexion Pharmaceuticals will open a discussion on how AI-enabled diagnostics can be embedded into routine workflows to scale rare disease testing globally.

Patient Perspectives:

Rare New England will give insight on examining biomarker testing access and policy from the perspective of the rare disease community.

Together, these sessions reflect a broader industry reality: the future of precision medicine will be shaped not only by advances in oncology, but by the development of novel biomarkers and diagnostics capable of transforming care across a much wider range of diseases.

This October, we will explore how those cross-functional and cross-disease learnings can accelerate the development, validation and adoption of novel biomarkers and diagnostics across the full precision medicine landscape.
